Next Exhibition...

In many ways our first exhibition was a huge success: we had more than a dozen young artists take part along with hundreds of visitors, and we received many compliments on our artwork and the way it was displayed. This time though, we are setting our sights much higher.

I think it's fair to say that we can get more artists involved and more people to visit, and put together a more complex display that will reflect the theme of the exhibition.

Yeap, we will be having a theme once again, and that theme is...well let me explain why we are having a theme first. First of all, from an advertising standpoint, a theme is great for marketing materials like posters and invitations. It's also much easier to talk to the press when you have a theme to speak about. And, having a theme means that we can create a way to display the art that is related to the topic. Something that, I think, makes the exhibition more of an experience for the viewer. Another reason to have a theme is that it forces us to go out and create something NEW, and maybe even something that is outside of our usual spectrum of expression.

So, after polling both the photo club attendees and the stitch and bitchers over the past few weeks, it seems that modern life has emerged as the favorite topic for our next exhibition.
Of course this is a very broad theme, so I don't think people should have trouble finding an idea or two they would like to explore. Your art could deal with a current event, be an exploration of a hot topic, or be a commentary about the way we live our lives today. One person has already started working on a project related to obesity and someone else is submitting a piece exploring the idea of garbage.

As of right now, we are aiming for sometime in May as the date for he exhibition. The due date for submissions would probably be the first week in May.

Anyway, I hope that everyone who took part in the last exhibition will once again contribute, but as I mentioned above we are hoping to get some new folks involved as well. So, if you are interested and want more details you can e-mail me at nelson[at]shotonsitemedia.com or Facebook message me.
